highlight color of parent when sub item selected 10 Years, 12 Months ago

I have a menu that is two levels. Currently when I select a top level or sub menu item it gets highlighted. What I would like is for the parent menu to be highlighted as well. For example:

Menu A
item 1
item 2
item 3

If I select item2, it gets highlighted. I would also like to see "Menu A" highlighted when a item under it is selected.

Any ideas on how I might be able to accomplish this?
