I have downloaded ARI Slick Gallery, but what do I do with it to make it work.

The demo looks fantastic..........................

I want to put gallery images ino an article in Joomla 1.5

Install the module and configure it. You can find documentation in "Description" field on module settings page.

Like I said, probably very stupid, but that helps to set up the parameters, but does not help you use it within an article, or am I missing something here............

You can use "Content - Load Module" standard Joomla! plugin to load a module into an article. More information about it can be found here.

Slowly getting there. I now have a series of 'blank' thumbnails, which I can click to get a picture.

I cannot see any thumbnails, just an outline.

It seems you use incorrect value for "Thumbnails path" parameter. Leave this parameter empty if you want to use auto-generated thumbnails.
