using moduleid= method to display image gallery, If I set generate thumbnails to yes then the lightbox size will be the size specified for thumbnails. If I turn off generate thumbnails the problem remains until I change the size of thumbnails. Then all is fine.

this is true for the gallery types (ie. simple, slick)

any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

If "ARI Sexy Thumbnails" plugin is enabled, try to disable it. If it doesn't help, could you provide a link to a page where we can see a problem and temporary access to your J! backend by email so we can investigate an issue?

After disabling the thumbnails plugin, the problem was resolved.

Are you considering this a solution and does this degenerate any future thumbnail functionality. Or put another way, what otherwise role does the thumbnail plugin offer?

We just recommend to temporary disable "ARI Sexy Thumbnails" plugin to detect a reason of the problem. You can enable the plugin and set "Ordering" parameter in plugin settings lesser than for "ARI Sexy Lightbox" and "ARI Sexy Lightbox Anywhere" plugins.
