Unfortunately you can't do it for standard Joomla! menu point because Joomla! provides limited functionality for creating menu point, but you can do this button in any Joomla! content. For example in template file, a component content or in 'Custom HTML' Joomla! module. You can try to use the following hack for using fancybox in menu item, but it can require additional CSS styles because it depends on which menu module you use:

1. Install 'ARI Fancybox' module.

2. Install 'System - ARI Fancybox Anywhere' plugin, open plugin settings page, set 'Mode' parameter to 'Anywhere', enable plugin and save settings.

3. Create new menu item with type 'External Link', enter # in 'Link' parameter and enter the following code in 'Title' parameter:

{arifancybox activeType="module" opt_width="300" opt_height="250" id="<module_id>" link="Search" title="Seach"}{/arifancybox}

where <module_id> is ID of search module, you find it on search module settings page.

Could you say link where we can see this issue? Because we need to see HTML and CSS code for this page that provide solution. If it's private, you can send it by email.
