Read this post please, we wrote about Joomla! root directory, not about web-site root directory. We can help to configure the extension if you provide link to page where you try to use it and temporary access to your Joomla! backend by email. If it is not possible we can provide refund so it is hard to find the reason of the problem because we don't see structure of your site template and other details.

"System - ARI Extensions" is required only for Joomla! 1.6 and this fact is described in readme.txt file from extension's package. Regards, ARI Soft
