Sorry, I have the same problem...my slideshow does not show in the skylab template.
I changed the name="position-12" into name="slide" in index.php in the following code <jdoc:include type="modules" name="slide" style="none"/> but it doestn't works.

Could you provide a link to a page where we can see the problem and a temporary access to your J! backend by email so we can investigate the problem?

Go to Admin > Extensions > Template Manager > Skylab and set Display Slideshow to Yes
