I was using the older version 1.5 (I think), and saw that you had updated the menu on the JED so I downloaded the latest from here.

I uninstalled the menu first using Joomla's facility and then installed the new version and configured it the same as I normally would.

Now, after installation, the menu is showing the items set exclusively for Editors and Above as disabled items rather than hidden until login.

I have checked across several different browsers and have the same effect.

I am using Joomla 1.5.23

Can you advise?

Download and upgrade the module again please. It should help.

PS: Upgrade process doesn't require to uninstall previous version of the module. Just install new version over installed one through standard Joomla! installation page.

Check that "Show hidden items" parameter is set to "No".

I did try that as well. For some reason it wasn't sticking. I am staying with the downgraded version for now as I am developing right now and need to have a presentational version for my client. If this helps, the domain I using this on is a subdomain as in 'subdomain.example.com' with SEF turned on (Stock Joomla).

We can't reproduce described problem on our test server with the latest version of the extension. We can investigate the issue if you provide temporary access to your Joomla! backend by email.
