You can use "System - ARI Sexy Lightbox" plugin, code looks like:

Where LINK_TO_IMAGE is link to original image, LINK_TO_THUMBNAIL is link to thumbnail.

Place this code in module content. In your case if image gallery is generated automatically by the module, "ARI Sexy Links" can be used, but generated content by the module doesn't contain links to original images. You can see it if open HTML source of the page.
