Do you have any more documentation on the PHP extension? The link you inserted just goes back to this same thread. Also, my database is not Sybase, it is MS SQL.

So, the problem I was having is that the external database was an MSSQL database, and I was on shared Lynux server. I changed over to a dedicated windows server, had them install the PHP extensions you recommended, and everything connected immediately. Hopes this helps someone else.
